Cornhuskers are in the top five!
When you start a blog you have to be pretty shameless about attracting search engines. Given that some of the other titles might have drawn a reprimand from the administration I decided to go with this one.
The title also has the advantage of being true. The Cornhusker state is one of the leading producers of uranium in the nation. At the end of 2007 there were six conventional underground uranium mines operating in the United States and five solution mining operations. The solution mining operations are referred to as in-situ leach (ISL) or in-situ recovery (ISR). The underground mines are relatively small operations whereas the ISL operations are responsible for the bulk of US uranium production.
But about that title. Nebraska’s uranium production comes from the Crow Butte ISL operation near Harrison NE. This ISL mine is operated by Cameco; the world’s largest producer of uranium.
We’ll spend some time over the coming weeks considering different aspects of uranium geology and uranium production.
