Opportunities Immediate research assistantships and a postdoctoralposition are available on an interdiscplinary project involving biogeochemical and water cycling through riparian zones - contact Durelle Scott for more information. ____________________________________________________________________________________ The Department of Geosciences at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL) (http://www.geosciences.unl.edu/) invites applicants for MS and PhD level graduate research assistant positions in the general area of Hydrologic Sciences. For qualified students competitive salaries will be offered. Potential research areas include (1) biogeochemical cycling of nutrients/metals in streams & rivers, (2) biogeochemical transformations at the sediment-water interface, and (3) watershed-scale examination of material fluxes from the landscape through the river network. Students interested in the hydrologic sciences coming from a background in geology, chemistry or engineering are highly sought. A new wet-chemistry laboratory contains an IC, nutrient analyzer, carbon analyzer, and fluorometer. Other strengths in the department of Geosciences related to the hydrologic sciences include land-surface water hydrology (Erkan Istanbulluoglu), land-climate interactions (John Lenters), groundwater-surface water interactions (Vitaly Zlotnik), groundwater hydrology (Darryll Pederson), and paleolimnology (Sheri Fritz). The University of Nebraska provides unique opportunities for studying water with the new campus-wide Water Resources Research Initiative directed(http://wrri.unl.edu/) by the UNL Water Center (http://watercenter.unl.edu/). Lincoln, the state capitol, has a lively downtown, affordable cost of living, and is accessible to both outdoor and urban activities. Please contact Durelle Scott to learn more about current opportunities. Application deadlines for Fall 2007 were due in January 2006. Please email D. Scott for current information on opportunities within his research group.
