UNL Water Resources Research Initiative

A Water Resources Research Initiative (WRRI) is strengthening the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's efforts to be a world leader in the field of water research by combining diverse areas of water resources expertise (groundwater hydrology, water quality, climate change, irrigation, remote sensing and geographical information systems).

Department of Geosciences Department of Geosciences consists of Geology, Meteorology/Climatalogy& Hydrogeology. New faculty hired under the WRRI in Geosciences include Istanbulluoglu & Scott.

School of Natural Resources

The School of Natural Resources applies an integrated systems approach built upon disciplinary strengths in the physical, biological and social sciences.
Department of Biological Systems Engineering The mission of the Department of Biological Systems Engineering is to educate engineers and managers, conduct research, and transfer engineering technology to benefit Nebraska's biological systems.
UNL Water Center The mission of the UNL Water Center is to implement and facilitate water and water-related research, teaching, extension and public outreach programming within the University of Nebraska system.
UNL Water Sciences Laboratory The Water Sciences Laboratory provides technical expertise and sophisticated analytical instrumentation for environmental and water related research.

Hydrologic Sciences
U.S. Geological Survey The Water Resources Division's (WRD) mission is to provide reliable, impartial, timely information that is needed to understand the Nation’s water resources. Their online website is a great resource for up to date streamflow, historic streamflow, and water quality information. The website also contains links to spatial information used in water related research.

U.S.G.S. National Research Program The National Research Program (NRP) conducts basic and problem oriented hydrologic research in support of the mission of the U.S.G.S.. The page contains links to NRP projects and current post-doctoral opportunities.
Environmental Protection Agency The EPA's office of water's goal in the next 4 years is to: "Ensure drinking water is safe. Restore and maintain oceans, watersheds, and their aquatic ecosystems to protect human health, support economic and recreational activities, and provide healthy habitat for fish, plants, and wildlife.". The site contains information on local watersheds, funding opportunities, and historic water quality data.
National Science Foundation The NSF's Hydrologic Sciences (HS) area (within the Geosciences directorate of NSF) focuses on terrestrial processes that comprise the hydrologic cycle including evapotranspiration, precipitation, infiltration, overland and streamflow, subsurface percolation and the transport of solutes, nutrients, and particles by these fluxes.
