GEOL 211: Sedimentology and Stratigraphy (1/13/09)

Instructor: David Loope; Office: 322 Bessey Hall, dloope1@unl.edu; 472-2647

Textbook: Principles of Sedimentology and Stratigraphy (4th Edition) by Sam Boggs

We will meet 9:30 TR for lecture, and Thursday afternoons at 1:30 for lab. Some labs later in the semester will involve short field trips. Digital copies of lectures (in Power Point format)  will be available on my Geosciences website:

http://www.geosciences.unl.edu/~dloope/Teaching/STRAT-SED%20WEB/index.html

Grades will be determined by your performance on 3 tests (70%), class participation (10%) and a presentation / paper (20%). The tests will incorporate both lecture and lab material and will consist of essay (about 60%) and short-answer questions (about 40%).

The third test (not comprehensive) will be given during finals week.  The paper will be on a topic of your choice, should be about 8 pages long (double spaced, exclusive of figures). After the paper is due (April 14), each student will give a short presentation of his/her paper to the class.

Attendance: You are expected to attend class.  If you miss class, you are responsible for informing yourself about missed announcements and material covered.

Field Trip: WeÕll go on a three-day field trip (western Nebraska?) over the weekend of April 17-19 or 18-20.
